Ahrefs Lite, its entry plan, is listed at $129 a month on monthly billing, a little less when paid yearly. That is a lot for a small site owner who mostly needs keyword ideas, rank tracking and a site audit. These five cost less and cover most of that.
Google Search Console is free and comes first. It is the only tool here with real data about your own site: the queries you appear for, clicks, impressions and average position, straight from Google. Every paid tool estimates. This one reports. Set it up before you buy anything.
SE Ranking is the closest to a full Ahrefs replacement. The Essential plan is listed at about $65 a month, or around $52 when billed annually, and includes rank tracking, a backlink checker, a site audit and competitor research, with five projects and 500 tracked keywords. For most small sites, this is the one to try first.
Moz Pro Starter is listed at $49 a month, or $39 billed annually. It is thin: one site and 50 tracked keywords. Its draw is Moz's long-running link index and its Domain Authority score, which plenty of people still quote.
Mangools is the friendliest of the group, with an entry plan under $30 a month. Its KWFinder tool is good at surfacing low-competition keywords, but the entry plan allows only a small number of lookups a day. It suits occasional research, not daily work.
Ubersuggest, from Neil Patel's company, lists its Individual plan at $29 a month or $290 as a one-time lifetime payment. A lifetime option is rare among SEO tools, and it breaks even after ten months. The data is shallower than the others, but for a blogger checking keyword ideas it is enough.
What all five give up is backlink depth, which is the thing Ahrefs is best at. If your work is link building or link analysis for clients, the cheaper tools will miss links Ahrefs finds.
The short version: set up Search Console first, then try SE Ranking if you want one paid tool that covers most of what Ahrefs does. Take Ubersuggest's lifetime plan if you want to stop paying monthly. Keep Ahrefs only if backlinks are your job.
