I bought follow.it on camera at four stars. A few days later I refunded it.
It looked like the safest deal on the list. The company is from Malta and has been running since 2016, which is the best survival signal you can find on a lifetime deal. There is a free plan. It is an alternative to Feedly, Inoreader and Newsblur, and the pitch was that you could follow any website and get updates by email, Slack, Telegram or push. The $49 tier still puts ads in the emails you paid for, and ad free starts at $99, but I wanted to see how bad the ads were.
Then two things happened.
First, right after I bought it, they emailed me: leave a review and we will upgrade you for free. That is why I bought it in the first place. I saw a lot of good reviews. It turns out many of them were paid for with upgrades. Nobody leaves a bad review to get a free upgrade.
Second, when I went to set it up, it asked for an RSS feed. It does not watch any website. It watches feeds, which mostly means blog posts. It is a glorified RSS feed monitor, and there are plenty of free ones.
I asked for a refund and got it. The next day they emailed again asking for a review.
My verdict: 2 stars, pass. The tacos need to be earned, and these were not.
