LifetimeCloud Secure Storage is selling a lifetime subscription to 1TB of encrypted cloud storage on StackSocial for about $40, one time. The listing says lifetime so many times that it starts to feel like it is trying to convince itself.
On price alone it is hard to argue with. A terabyte for $40 forever costs about what seven months of Backblaze would. If it lasted ten years, I would grab the 2TB plan without thinking.
The problem is the word lifetime. I have bought deals like this five or six times over the years, and every time the life expectancy was far shorter than promised. Here there is no founder named, a single review posted two days before I looked, and a company I had never heard of that has to keep paying a monthly storage bill for customers who only paid once. Files are capped at 1.5GB each, and redeeming the code makes it non-refundable.
The real cost is not the $40. It is what happens if the service shuts down ten months from now: you find a replacement, download everything, and move it all over again.
My verdict: 1 star, pass. As a second encrypted copy of backups you already keep somewhere else it might be cheap insurance, but I would not trust it with anything I only keep in one place.
